Texture Modulation by Electrotactile Augmentation

"We are developping the technology which is capable of varying tactile roughness perception. In this research, we revealed that the electrotactile sensation produced by the spatially transparent electrotactile display the could modify the tactile roughness perception during material exploration by the fingertip at a several extent. The proposed system controls the frequency of electrical pulse stimulus according to the user's finger velocity in order to augment concave-convex feeling to his/her fingertip. This system enables users to have experience of various roughness feeling with a real material, which is expected to be applied for rapid product's texture design."
